THE TOY BOX

"The toy is the child's earliest initiation into art, or rather it is the first concrete example of art; and when maturity intervenes, the most rarefied example will not satisfy his mind with the same enthusiasm, nor the same fervent conviction" Charles Baudelaire

The innocence of play is one thing we are all lucky enough to have experienced at some time in our lives. It could be said that our connection to the toy is in some cases less innocent, toys often adopting the role of social or political constructor. The project offers artists from a range of cultural backgrounds the opportunity to re-visit their childhood experiences through their individual interpretation of the toy theme.
The toy box is a print project completed in 2003 between students from the Printmaking studios of the National College of Art and Design Dublin Ireland and the School of Contemporary Arts Edith Cowan University Perth Australia.
